THE BROOKLANDS STORY

This week, I would like to share with you an article written in the 1950s by Howard Pixton, a former pilot at Avro. His contribution was printed in the Avro News magazine and was discovered in a brown striped box, carefully stored away in a cabinet in the archives.

The story continued in Avro News across a few pages and is both entertaining and edifying. I will share the next page next week.

However, reading the story of an eyewitness, pilot and fellow aviator gave me enough insight into the life of A.V. Roe.

Where the diaries had failed to paint a clear picture regarding A.V.'s mannerisms, emotions and day-to-day routines at Brooklands, Pixton's article offered a vivid overview of A.V. Roe and revealed something personal which A.V. rarely let slip.

While my quest for the men behind the machines continues in the archives here at Avro, I thank you out there for reading these weekly journal entries, which document my own journey as Poet-in-Residence.

I hope you've found this article enlightening. It ended abruptly I know, but I promise you it is worth the wait.
